Assisted Outpatient Treatment Services (AOT) delivers community-based mental health services under a civil commitment court order to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

AOT enables individuals to live safely within their communities, to avoid repeat hospitalizations and to ensure access to outpatient mental health services.

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Must be a licensed MD in New Jersey. Current CDS and DEA also required.
  • Specialty Training or experience in Forensic Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Board Certification or Board Eligible status is needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate all individuals referred to the AOT program and determine the appropriateness of completing a physician’s commitment certification, based on meeting AOT criteria.
  • Provide psychiatric evaluations for each individual accepted into the AOT to determine the on-going and continued appropriateness of maintaining AOT treatment with regard to the least possible restrictive setting.
  • Wherever possible, provide live testimony at all court hearings.
  • Administer and monitor psychotropic medication to program identified individuals in the AOT program who can benefit from such medication.
  • Provide consultations and re-evaluations on a scheduled or emergency basis to individuals involved with AOT.
  • Provide clinical oversight and direction to the AOT program staff.
  • Direct clinical case conferences.
  • Provide in-service training to enhance staff competency.
  • Re-assess AOT patients prior to court review proceedings.
  • Performs monthly quality assurance evaluations with AOT Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the AOT Program Director
